Just minutes before a verdict was reached in Chauvin’s trial, the This Teacher earned all of this Summer Break #Survived Pandemic Teaching #6th Grade Teacher shirt but in fact I love this 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant was fatally shot by police in Columbus, Ohio, becoming just the latest in killings at the hands of law enforcement that appear to have continued unabated despite last year’s protests. Meanwhile, the perpetrators of several other high-profile killings from the past few years are yet to even face charges, including those responsible for the deaths of Breonna Taylor, Daniel Prude, and Stephon Clark.

In order to ensure their deaths were not in vain, it is imperative that the This Teacher earned all of this Summer Break #Survived Pandemic Teaching #6th Grade Teacher shirt but in fact I love this same pressure that surrounded the Chauvin case be applied to upcoming cases surrounding wrongful conduct from police and that any and all officers who have committed similar crimes to Chauvin are held accountable. The trial of ex-officer Kim Potter for the killing of Daunte Wright in Minneapolis earlier this month is currently underway, while the officers responsible for Bryant’s killing will likely face a jury later this year. By keeping our attention firmly trained on these future cases beyond Chauvin and demanding the same level of justice is served, there is still hope for the tide to turn.
